Designed by Austrian painter and illustrator Franz Wüerbel (1858-1941), this poster of the Berlin 1936 Olympic Games was issued in 19 languages. It depicts the bronze sculpture of the quadriga, or four-horse chariot, that crowns the famous Brandenburg Gate in the host city. In the background, both the figure of a wreath-crowned victor and the five Olympic circles connect the ancient traditions to the values of the modern Games.
