In August 2009 the first and only Asian Martial Arts Games took place in Bangkok, Thailand. Although a successful tournament with 37 participating countries, after 2009 it became part of the quadrennial Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG).

The mascot of the first AIMAG was ‘Hanuman Yindee’. Hanuman is a Hindu deity, half-human and half-monkey. He is a patron of martial arts and an example of courage, fortitude and excellence. ‘Yindee’ means proudness and the Organising Committee used it as a welcoming and friendship gesture to participants and spectators.
