Al-Saif (Summer)

Taking inspiration from his local environment, Qatari artist Yousef Ahmad produced this series interpreting the seasons. In it he uses his unique abstract style. Ahmad is known for his experimentation with paper as a medium. In “Al-Saif (Summer)”, he uses it to create depth and add texture to the background. Unconventional materials such as tape, rope and linen create a tactile, almost three-dimensional effect on the canvas.

Each season’s palette includes the colours they are typically associated with. “Al-Saif (Summer)” is dominated by sandy tones though the same shade of brown creeps through the background, accompanied by bold streaks of grey and black to evoke the season.
