Mohammed Al Saleem was a pioneer of modern art in Saudi Arabia. He was inspired by Arabic script and desert landscapes, leading to the development of his unique painterly style, which he termed horizonism. This technique represents the skyline of Riyadh as observed from the desert. In this piece, Al Saleem demonstrated his close study of nature in his native country, focusing on the Najd region’s landscape, where he was born. He showed a particular interest in sunlight, and sought to capture its intensity through warm tones, while the abstract layered shapes represent sand dunes. Through his deep connection to the local environment, Al Saleem created calm and contemplative works that reflect his surroundings, marked by innovation and cultural heritage.
