The St. Louis 1904 Olympic medal depicted classical symbols of victory: Nike and Zeus holding laurel crowns. Inspired by earlier Olympic medals, it was uniquely attached to a coloured ribbon with a chest pin.

This specific gold medal belonged to American athlete George W. Underwood, who, together with three teammates, was placed first in the men’s four-mile relay.
