Marvered Glass Bottle

This red and translucent miniature jar is typical of the production of marvered glass, reminiscent of Ancient Egyptian vessels of the 12th century BCE. This technique consists of applying continuous spirals of opaque pale coloured trails around the body of the blown object. The object is then rolled on a flat surface, the marver, in order to push the applied decoration into the surface. It is finally either molded or tooled to give its final shape. The shape of this miniature jar as well as the colour and type of marvered decoration indicate an early production, while the technique continues to be used until the 6th century AH / 12th century CE.
