The host city for the 2012 Olympic Games was selected in 2005 by the members of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). It was an intense competition between Paris and London, but the Olympics were finally awarded to the English capital.
The Back the Bid campaign for the London 2012 bid was one of the many communication initiatives that contributed to this accomplishment.
Transport for London, a governmental entity responsible for London’s transport networks, supported the campaign and this poster is an example of their contribution. Using four of the five Olympic colours, the designers created an abstract velodrome which develops into a section of the London Underground map.
In London 2012, the British team dominated the cycling events, winning eight gold medals.
