This official torch was created for the London 1948 Olympic Games, the first Summer Games held after the Second World War.

The 1948 torch relay, only the second in Olympic history, was known as the ’Relay of Peace’. Designed by Ralph Lavers, the torch carried the Olympic flame on its journey from Olympia to London, where British athlete John Mark completed the final leg and lit the cauldron at Wembley Stadium.
