"This jar with two small handles, a narrow neck and a globular body is covered externally with a turquoise-blue glaze, while the interior is covered with a white glaze. The lip of the neck is protruding, which may have allowed for the placement of a small ceramic or wooden lid held by a textile.
A functional object used for the storage and transportation of liquids, such as oil, water, wine or syrup, this transportation jar was discovered at the Murwab archaeological site in northwest Qatar. The production of this type of jar appears to have ceased in the middle of the 9th century, according to the stratified archaeological findings of Susa (Iran), Samarra and Basra (Iraq). The most important workshop for this production was the centre of Basra.
