The seventh edition of the FIFA World Cup was held from 30 May to 17 June 1962 in Chile. Following the qualification rounds, the final 16 participating countries came only from Europe or South America. 1962 was the last time that only teams from the two continents participated in the World Cup.
In the final, the Brazilian team successfully defended the World Cup title, defeating Czechoslovakia 3–1. Brazil became the second team, after Italy, to win the World Cup in two consecutive tournaments.
