Comprised of 13 densely handwoven, multicoloured tapestries suspended from the ceiling To People is an homage to Qatar’s diverse population, as well as to the online networks in which it participates, both within and beyond Qatar’s borders. Raqs depict people as pixelated crowds featuring figures of varying sizes and states of adjacency or entanglement. By utilising woven textiles as a physical representation of the tight-knit communities established by Doha’s inhabitants; the work also comments on the notion of community itself. The ’weave’, as Raqs refers to it, is a display of both tangible and intangible connectivity. To People represents the age in which the intangible takes precedence; while people may not see each other in person, they still follow one another’s digital footprints.
