‘Powder’ was one of the three mascots of the Winter Olympics 2002 that took place in Salt Lake City, the capital of Utah, USA. The inspiration for the Games mascots came from Native American legends.

A snowshoe hare, indigenous in the Western U.S., ‘Powder’ was named following a national vote. Her name comes from powder snow. She loved skiing and figure skating and with her speed, she represented the first element of the Olympic motto ‘Faster, Higher, Stronger’.

‘Powder’ wears an amulet featuring a hare in the form of a rock engraving, inspired by the style of the indigenous people of the region.
