Antoine Laurent de Jussieu (1748-1836) was a professor of botany at the Royal Garden of Medicinal Plants in Paris and the first researcher to publish a classification of flowering plants. This herbarium (collection of dried plants) was his gift to Jean-Louis Baudelocque (1745-1810), a doctor who had saved the life of Jussieu’s sister.
