This pair of silver conical earrings are known as ighlamyyat, meaning pencil shaped. They feature granulated decoration in the form of a series of triangles and are each made from two cones brazed together, with hooks at the top to be placed in the ear. Silver jewellery was common before the discovery of oil. Gold jewellery was made by local craftsmen who had stalls in the marketplace. While sliver jewellery was imported from Saudi Arabia, Oman and Yeman. Gold versions of these earrings are still worn today.
