The eastern part of the Rif region is known for its large moulded oval fibulas with an almond-shaped centrepiece and eight oblong reliefs surrounding it, often with a trapezoidal section where the needle is fixed. The central almond-shaped jewel, called fakrun (from Amazighi ifkir, ‘turtle’) due to its shell-like shape, is considered a protective symbol.
