This ewer is typical of the early production of ceramics in the Eastern Mediterranean, which were covered with green glaze or green splashed yellow glaze and moulded. This example bears repeated circles and medallions on the neck and the upper part of the body. Vessels and fragments of this type were mainly found in sites like Susa, Hira, al- Mina or Tarsus. The technique as well as the shape of the vessel clearly indicate continuity with late Antique unglazed decorated moulded wares produced by both Sassanian and Byzantine worlds, which tradition continued over several centuries in the Islamic world.
