Since the 1970s, Iraqi artist and art theorist Shakir Hassan Al Said has approached art philosophically, exploring signs, symbols, and meaning. During a one-month residency in Doha, he created “Contemplation on a Point”, a distinctive vertical composition made from three sheets of white paper that emphasises the fragmentation and continuity of meaning.
Black ink forms, numbers, and patterns appear as if they are a quietly coded message. Through his exploration of the significance of a single dot and its evolution, Al Said portrays art as a means of contemplation and a testament to the interconnectedness of the universe.
