Athens 2004 Olympic Poster

The official poster of the Athens 2004 Olympics featured the emblem of the Games: an olive wreath that was the winner’s prize at the ancient Olympic Games. The Organising Committee has circulated two more groups of posters, one with sports pictograms and a series of art posters.

For the latter, 28 Greek artists were invited to create a work of art specifically for the Athens Games. Manolis Zacharioudakis (b. 1958) created a colourful drawing reflecting his multifaceted artistic language. Full of motifs linked to the ancient and modern Olympic Games, his piece abstractly recalls the design of ancient Greek pottery. With features reminiscing of illustrations and comics, he has incorporated humorous hints resulting in a playful outcome.
